Oval belt buckle, branded to Bear Tools.
Features: An oval, cast metal (likely pewter) belt buckle, finished in antique-silver colour. The buckle is lightly curved.
Front Design: A 3.5mm border around the edge of the buckle, with a raised bear design on a smooth-textured surface inside. Central to the design is a 'statant' pose, facing to the right. The ground beneath the bear has a pressed-triangle texture, with raised grass stalks to either side. To the left and right of the bear stand two towers/derricks, and in the background are a range of mountains. Across the top, above the bear, is the curved block text "BEAR TOOLS".
Back Elements: The back has a checkered pattern with an alternating line texture inside each square. Around the edge is a lightly raised twin-ring border. The hook is rounded and curved, and the hinge is an elongated trapezoid connected to the buckle at two points. Between these elements is the slightly raised text "CENTURY CANADA".
Old Description (Kelsey Dalrymple, 3 June 2020): Bear Tools. Oval pewter belt buckle with bear on face (Donated by Gordon McQuaig).Collection

On the front, on the border to the right, is what appears to be a patch of paper fibers captured in adhesive.
On the back are two patches in adhesive. One outlining where the hinge rests when falling to the right, and a second larger area of adhesive covering the left side of the back. Adhesive is also present on the hinge.
Also on the back, is a large area of unknown pale residue on the right, around the hook. Also present around the adhesive on the left-side.Surface
The finish is worn and scratched in raised surfaces throughout the buckle (front and back). More visible on the front on the border.Materials
Heavy wear on the raised elements of the bear, smoothing out the texture and detail on the design.Mechanism
The hinge moves freely.Created By
