A small 1953 desk calendar, with a standee back flap and small thermometer. Branded to Eldorado Tank & Pipe Fitting Ltd.
Brand: El Dorado Tank & Pipe Fitting Ltd. was a business local to the Leduc, Calmar, and Camrose areas, from at least 1953-1966 based on business found records.
Features: A pentagonal-shaped (very shallow-angled top sides) desk calendar, made from textures and embossed card. The backing is a 4.5mm deep block of card, covered in a textures brown paper. On the reverse of the backing are the following elements: a central standee flap which opens upward to allow the calendar to stand; on the central flap is debossed the text "AD-A-DAY; MADE IN CANADA" and a cut-out section in the lower centre of the flap; to the left is a second fold-out flap that opens from left-to-right; to the right side is the debossed text "PATENT IN CANADA; 1938-1945; U.S. PAT. 2,355,705; 2,383,776"; above the central flap is a small half-circle flap that opens downward and has a circle cut-out in the centre for hanging. Beneath the central flap is a second flap to secure the outer flap. There is blue ballpoint text written on all these section (see Inscriptions below). Across the top, over the small half-circle slap, is a black strip of straining (likely from an adhesive/tape).
Attached to the front of the backing card, is a second inner card, for the same shape, 4-6mm in from the edges of the backing card. This inner card is cream-coloured, with a swirl and line border pattern embossed/debossed on the surface. On this inner card are the following elements: to the left is an vertically-elongated arch-shaped cut-out, beneath which is a small thermometer mounted to a metallic-gold backing, secured with two silver loops, and marked in black to either side with Fahrenheit imperative measurements, and covered in a plastic window; In the lower centre-to-right is a horizontally-elongated rectangular window, with curved top corners, filled with a clear plastic window, and beneath which are changeable month-to-month calendar sheets for 1953; and above the horizontal window is the brown-ink text "Eldorado [script]; TANK & PIPE FITTING LTD. [san serif]; LEDUC; Phone 298; CALMAR; Phone 45; CAMROSE; Phone 2833 [san serif]".
On the month-to-month calendar slips are the following elements: that month's calendar; the previous month's calendar to the left; and the next month's calendar to the right.Collection
