Description

A rectangular belt buckle, branded to Canadian Superior Oil. Features: A rectangular, cast-metal (likely brass) belt buckle, branded to Canadian Superior Oil. It has rounded corners, is finished in antique-bronze, and is lightly curved. Front Design: A raised border ranging in width from 2 mm to 2.5 mm surrounding a recessed background with a pinpoint texture. At the top of the buckle is raised smooth block text reading "CANADIAN", and at the bottom of the buckle is raised smooth block text reading "SUPERIOR OIL". In the middle there is large smooth raised block text that reads "CS", contained within the "C" is a raised smooth maple leaf design. Back Elements: The back face has a dimpled texture. The hook is broken off but still has a four leaf design at the base. The hinge is an elongated hexagon attached at one point. The attachment piece is ornate. Cleanliness

There is some white accretion in the front surface, particularly a patch a quarter of the way up the left side along the border, a batch in the lower inside curve of the large "S", and a patch in the gap between the "C" and the "S". There is also a small bit under the "N" in Canadian.

Surface

There is some mild wear on the front surface, particularly on the corners and raised elements. There is some tarnished patches on the raised "CS" and maple leaf, particularly some dots along the middle of the "C" Back: There is some green oxidation on the left side of the base of the hinge.

Materials

The hook is broken off.

Mechanism

The hinge is stiff but has a full range of motion.
