Description

Oval belt buckle, branded to CBI Features: An oval, cast metal (likely pewter) belt buckle, finished in antique silver. The buckle is flat. Front Design: A 2 to 3 mm rigged border designed to look like rope goes around the edge of the buckle and the background is a pitted texture. Across the top and bottom is a smooth raised banner design, and the banner at the top contains indented block text that reads "SAFE WORKER". To the left is a raised design that appears to be a silo, to the right is a raised design that appears to be a spherical water tank on its supports, and in the center is a raised water tower design that contains indented block text that reads "CBI". Back Elements: The back is a faintly crosshatched texture with an irregular hexagonal hinge attached at one point. The hook is a raised dome that has been hollowed out. Old Description (Kelsey Dalrymple 6/3/2020): CBI Safe Worker. Pewter oval belt buckle. Empty banner at bottom.

Cleanliness

On the back of the buckle there is a rectangular patch of adhesive residue near the accession number. There is a patch of dark accretion at the far left of the back surface, and a horizontal stripe of the same accretion near the top between the hinge and hook.

Surface

There is some mild to medium scratching on the front surface, particularly the raised surfaces. Most notably, there is a horizontal scratch above the letters "CBI", and two vertical scratches inside the "C". There is wear on the left and right sides of the border, eliminating most of the rigged, rope-like pattern in those areas.

Materials

On the back, there is abrasion where the hook was possibly drilled in to and was mostly removed via hollowing it out. It is also possible that the hook was originally hollow and the top was simply ground off.

Structure

The flat portion of the buckle is slightly warped, it is twisted.

Mechanism

Hinge is stiff, but retains full range of motion.
