Norman Bruce wrote the instruction manual "From Slides to Hops" while serving as officer in the Royal Air Force cadet gliding training program, the A. T. C.
The version presented here is "now presented in slightly varied form to meet the post was gliding program."
Norman Bruce had, by this time, by his count, 23 years instructing people to fly primary gliders, starting in Medicine Hat in 1933, building on self-training starting in 1923. This publication was his distillation of all that experience into instruction manual form.
