Description

The Louden glider was the Czerwinski-Shenstone UTG-1, designed by Waclaw Czerwinski and Beverley S. Shenstone, and built by University of Toronto 4th year aeronautical engineering students under the direction of the Loudon Professor of Civil Engineering. It was completed within two years and flown for the first time on 5 November 1949. The glider was named in honour of Prof. T. H. Loudon, Head of Civil and Aeronautical Engineering, University of Toronto. An experimental type certificate was issued by the Canadian Department of Transport in November 1952, the glider receiving the registration CF-ZBN-X. The Louden was then operated successfully by the Toronto Gliding Club for several years before an accident wrote the aircraft off.
