General Notes

Note

St. Michael's Gliding Club was the first organized gliding club in a Canadian high school club, club members being students at the high school in Buckingham, PQ, population 5000. The club was formed by Brother Hormisdas in 1948. The school was operated by the Brothers of Christian Instruction, of which Bro. Hormisdas was a member.

Note

The St. Michael's club had a complete outfit including the prototype of the Schweizer SGU 1-19 "utility" glider, and a bus built from a WWII army truck. Initial operations were from a field near Buckingham, then moved Pendleton Airfield.
