Description

"The Canadian Scene" articles, published in Soaring magazine during 1951 and 1952, are presented here. From 1947 through 1954, Douglas Shenstone was a regular contributor to Soaring magazine, the house publication of the Soaring Society of America. He submitted articles that both educted his American readers about soaring and the soaring community in Canada, and provided updates on events and accomplishments in Canada. Prior to initiation of the Soaring Association of Canada magazine Free Flight in April 1949, these articles were one of the primary communications tools for the young Canadian gliding community. Once Free Flight had commenced, Douglas continued his commendable efforts to make Canadian soaring visible to the larger American audience. Douglas Shenstone was a very active contributor to the Canadian soaring community for many years, in numerous roles.
