Throughout his career, Florsheim focused on the darkness of society and conveying ideas through his work. In "Steel Mills," Florsheim uses color very deliberately, contrasting dark with bright, to represent pollution caused by factories and their detriments to our earth. He used this color tactic often in his industrial scenes, and often made prints like this where he utilized bright, almost acid-tinted colors and an abstracted treatment of buildings.
