8X10 glossy of bones in barrel. Update 2/2008: Black and white print. Snapshot. Image of a wooden barrel in the wall of an excavation. Barrel is open and a pile of bones and partial skull is inside. Written on the back in blue ink: "U.P. Public Relations Given by David Phillips[.] Picture of the whiskey barrel and the bones of Big Nose George as it was dug up when workman were excavating for the Hested Store being built by Ed Smith[sic] on Cedar Street in 1950-Dr. Thomas Maghee, Union Pacific Surgeon had his office on this site in 1881 when Big Nose George was hung and he keep[sic] his body in a whiskey barrel of brine after cutting off the top of his skull to study his brain. No one ever knew what he did with his body until it was discovered when the excavating was being done. It was identified by the top of the skull Mrs. Lillie Health Nelson has it[.]" White adhesive label pasted to back: "Big Nose George." Emulsion cracked throughout. Slightly soiled on back. Lower left corner bent. Emulsion cracked. Update 2012: Add 1 original glossy black and white print, 7 3/4" x 9 1/8". Written on back: "Frank J. Meyers, photographer, Rawlins, Wyoming", "Barell and Bones where they were found in 1950", also other pencil markings and measurements.
