Description

Photo of a wagon train of 30 horses; 3 abreast, 10 teams pulling a locomotive type boiler to the mines above Encampment in 1900. Update 2009: Black and white postcard. Photo of 30 horse team, 3 abreast, pulling a locomotive type boiler. In the background you can see a large building which has "Lumber" painted on the viewers left half and "Hay-Grain" painted on the right side. Two big signs are on top of the building. Top sign reads "Encampment." Bottom sign reads "Lumbar and Transportation Co.". Written above photo in blue ink "this picture was given by Willing Richardson, Elk Mt. Wyo." Below photo written in blue ink: "30 horses 3 abreast and ten teams pulling locomotive type boiler from the mines above encampment, Wyoming 1900". Printed on photo in white: "Wagon Trail, Encampment, Wyo" "135". Back of postcard has printed in black "Post Card" "Place Stamp Here" in right corner, "Address" (right side). Written in black ink: "To be put with the Willing G. Richardson collection.". Emulsion scratched. Edges are frayed and turning brown. Someone tried to write "train" in black ink under the word Trail. Stain in upper right half. Back of postcard turning brown, especially around the edge. Stained on bottom half.
