2011.1092.11.1Description
A sawed off shotgun 12 inches in total length. Missing the handle grip. Shotgun modified with a very short barrel. Lettering on side of gun stock "Riverside Arms Co. Chicopee Falls Mass. USA." Letters and numbers on bottom of barrel "GV 273". Barrel very shiny silver metal. Stock has wear from black to metal. There are gold patches on back side of grip area with a hole in very back of stock grip probably to attach stock. Silver trigger and lock. Originally found by owner in father's shed in Rawlins. Father is Coy Girardot. Was turned over to the Rawlins Police Department as it is an illegal weapon. Officer T. Dregne of the Rawlins PD brought the gun to the museum to see if we wanted it as opposed to them destroying it. We accepted the gun and the original owner came down and signed for it. Condition fair. Missing stock. Some repair work needed. Research shows it was made for protection. A weapon of choice for Scillion (Sicilian?) Mafia. Our historian Rans Baker, a gunsmith, also made several but with legal barrel length.Collection
