Description

Warm Springs, Wyoming Post Office in 1887. The mail was delivered by a mule team that belonged to George Condict. W. B. Hugus, C. S. Miner, A.?, R. Couzens, George Folsom, Bob Edwards, Jim Cemmance. Update - January 2010: Black & white print attached to ecru colored matboard which is attached to cardboard. Image shows a large log building at center with a smaller attached log structure at right. The rear of a large log structure is seen at side left. A group of nine men are standing in an irregular horizontal line on the wooden sidewalk? in front of the building. The doorway to main log building show a double door with one door ajar & three of the men standing in or near this doorway. Above the doorway is a rectangular sign: Warm Springs Telephone Office. A smaller sign to doorways photo left: Barber Shop at the bathhouse. A two mule team, 4 wheeled carriage is seen on roadway in front of building loaded with cargo at rear of carriage bed. Written on back of cardboard in bluegreen ink: Warm Springs, Wyo 1887 Now Saratoga The Mule team belongs to Geo. Condict Given to CCM by Mrs. Arthur Couzens Denver, Colo 1953 In pencil & blue ink: L to right A. S. Miner; A. R. Couzens; Geo. Folsom; W. B. Hugus; Bob Edwards; Jim Demarce; Geo. Condict An Ivory colored sheet of paper attached to the back side of cardboard on which is written in black ink: Warm Springs Post Office Wyoming in 1887, now Saratoga Wyoming. The mail was brot by Buckboard from Laramie to Walden Colo by one Carrier, then by Messrs Geo Condict and Dr W L Johnson to Saratoga in turn, in the picture on other side of Mr Condict is ready to start. The buildings are property of Hugus and Chatterton Mr W B Hugus is Post Master, with the chin whiskers [Arthur Couzens writing] Image is faded & cracked in half top to bottom side left. All edges are worn with abrasions. Large stains & unknown black spots are seen on top right side corner (mold?). White residue at lower right.
