Description

Mammoth bones recovered at a site 25 to 30 miles southwest of Rawlins, 1960. Update 5/2010: Black and white glossy print of a group of various aged boys/men standing inside a cement block shop type building. Two men are holding extremely large bones of different thicknesses and sizes. Other bones are lying on the floor in foreground. A tool bench is at background with tires and large cans beneath it. Written on back in blue ink: "Mammoth bones recovered at archeological site 25-30 mi southwest of Rawlins 1960." Stamped on back in black ink: "Frank J. Meyers. Rawlins, Wyo. May 18, '65." Small white sticker with mammoth written in pencil. Good condition. Wear and abrasion on edges with some dark unknown residue on three of the edges. Minor wrinkling. Writing on back impacts the front of surface. Slight soiling on back side right and small tear back side left. *Note-Man on left is identified as Dick Lane, student assistant of Dr. George Agogino, Asst. Prof. of Archaeology; older man at back left is Irving Hays, who found the bones as he was digging a spring southwest of Rawlins. Boy in back, wearing plaid shirt is Dan Braig. The girl, fifth from the left with just her head showing is Charlene Braig Abbott.
