Description

A light green three ring binder notebook used for a photograph and scrapbook album by Mr. and Mrs. Hans Larsen, donor's parents. The spine and binding is black. There is a tiny white sticker at the spine top edge with the number 2 written on it in black ink. Inside front cover are two white stickers, one above the other. Written on the top sticker, H. Larsen Projects in pencil? and the lower one: Sandstone-Elk Bldg Larsen Oil-Hospital written in ink. The binder measures 11 7/16" x 10". Page 1 is handwritten instructions for using Rawlins Red in paint, brick and concrete. At front section of book there is an insert of small ledger papers which began at Nystad, Nebraska and continued in Rawlins where he used it for contract record when first started in contracting at Rawlins, WY. The photos cover 1889-1945 and primarily include the Larsen Family. Photograph include "Bestafar" (father in law in Danish), J. P. Smith, and Schmidt, Hans Bestsamor (mother-in-law) dates not given, but might be mid 19th century; Han Larsen when young, 1889; Larsen's life including marriage photographs; Winchester Store Ad; Nysted High School for Danish Boys, Nysted, NE class photograph, includes Hans Larsen. (Note in the book states that the school was primarily for learning the English language, and that he came to Rawlins in April to work on the "section.") Early family photograph of H. Larsen with wife Mary, Chris, Katrina, and Lawrence; Newspaper clipping of 13 young Rawlins Danes, ca. 1892 all are named, some names include: Ole Frandsen, James Larsen, Ole Larsen, Jack Johnson, Hans Larsen, Chris Anderson, Carl and Eric Jensen; Jens Hansen, Aunt Doria, Laura, Julie Hansen; Six Larsen children, Chris, Katrina, Lawrence, Elsi, others not named; Mary Larsen in part of lumber yard sold to Union Pacific Railroad; photographs of several Larsen women with no identification; 1911 photographs of H. Larsen's business and home at the east end of 200 block of North Front Street; Larsen's Carpenter Shop; Various historical photographs of the Larsen Lumber Yard and Carpenter Shops; Note on page: Wooden two story shop burned down and was replaced by a stone building. There are three small photos of the stone carpenter shops, which were removed in 1957; very faded photograph of Larsen Home; following this is a good photo of house with notes, 1918?; Christmas 1938, H. Larsen, Grama Hansen; H. Larsen Blacksmith Shop, 1909; Insert of ledger papers, Insert of card that reads: Sales 1898/ Wagons; Railroad information; historical photos of interior of lumber yard, 1918 and blacksmith shop from the railroad yards. There is a folded hand drawn plan of the South 1/2 block #21 H. Larsen's lots #17-18-19-20-21-22; Union Pacific Lots #12-13-14-15-16. Plan on brown paper is glued in the binder. It is 19" x 19 1/2" unfolded. There is a plan by the Fire Insurance Company; A Similar plan of UPRR Front Street property ca. 1917. Shows lots 12,13, 14, 15, 16 and describes the Union Pacific Club construction, 1917. Larsens eventually sold all of 1/2 block to Union Pacific. Photos of Larsens north quarry, stone tool house, and quarry photos from 1965. Collection concludes with 5 pages of advertisement for windows as sold by Larsen, ca. 1902. Good condition with some fading and soiling on covers and inside pages. Spine has white adhesive? residue. Some yellowing of pages.
