Description

Chris Larsen with paper roll in front of Rawlins Garage. Digging basement on 5th Street. Update 5/2010: Two black and white glossy prints of a flat roof rock building. Signs on building read: "Rawlins Garage" "Firestone Tires, Most miles per Dollar". "Studebaker Cars". One hanging on corner reads: "Garage". Beside building is a 2 horse dump wagon, also a steam powered loader operated by 3 men. Another man stands on the ground behind a log used for ease of getting things up curb. A long board, wider at the top with cross arm, lays on the ground. An observer is standing on photo left. A gas pump is at the corner of the building. Dump wagon is hitched to 2 light colored horses. Basement is being dug to build the Wool, Wear and Worth Building which was built by Homer France. Five and Dime Store later changed name to Woolworths. Written on back in pencil: "Digging basement on 5th street April 24, 1923." In blue ink: "Chris Larsen? with roll." In black ink: "Duplicate Mounted" "Scenes - F Neg. No 6668 Print No. 118". In pencil: "Page 91, pix 1 2 1/4 x 3 1/2". Condition good. Creased, paper missing on bottom. Emulsion impacted. Irregular borders. Second print. Written on back in black ink: "Cat 217" Written on back in pencil: digging basement of 5th Street. Man holding roll of paper is Chris Larsen" "1 2 3-Chris Larsen" "#147" Good condition. Scratches, corners worn. Size 10 x 8"
