Update 5/2010: One contact print and one copy print, A black and white glossy print of a man hanging by the neck on a rope under a railroad bridge. Three men are standing on top of bridge by a railing. A man stands on the ground holding a horse that is hitched to a wagon. Foot of the hanging man appears to be on the wagon bed. His hands and arms are tied behind his back.
Written on back in pencil: "American Legion Hanging Gus Fleischli May 29, 1923". "Neg No. 6663". In black: "Neg No 6663 Print No 113".
Condition good. Creasing, edges worn. Size 8 x 10.
#2. Written on back in black: "Copy provided by the Wyoming State Archives and Historical Department". Type on white adhesive tag: "American Legion Hanging Gus Fleischli, May 28, 1923 Rawlins, Wyoming". In black: "Neg No 6663 Print no 113".
Copy Print condition good. Fingerprint lower left corner, emulsion impacted, creasing, fingerprints, top left corner bent, irregular borders. Size 5 x 7.
Update 2015: Curator Richard Lartz called the American Legion for clarification 11/5/2015 and they stated that it was a mock hanging, done for an event about the wild west, and articles about the event can be found in the Rawlins Republican 5/17/1923 (1-2) p11; 5/24/1923 (6-7) p9.Collection
