Description

Two Black and white prints. Print one: Elderly couple sitting on a porch in rocking chairs. Woman on left has on dark clothing and white bow at her neck. Man has on dark suit and hat and grey beard. Two white graduated size posts are to either side of them. A wood box with something planted in it sits on porch, written on it is : Magic yeast." More plants are in box on porch. Written on back in pencil: "Mr. and Mrs. Andrew R. McMicken". Condition is good. Paper missing on left edge, top right corner bent. Print two: Black and white print on cream mat 7 3/8 x 8 7/8 of an elderly couple sitting on a porch. Man is dressed in a black suit, white shirt, and black hat. He is sitting in a wood rocker. Woman is wearing a black long dress with a white tie at her neck. The porch is open with columns on both sides of couple. It is a clapboard house with lace curtains on windows. On porch photo right are plants in pots and a wood box labeled "Magic Yeast". This is printed backwards and so the photo is reversed. In pencil on a white adhesive tag: "Irving." Condition good. Scratched, accretion, mat cut down. Used as a mystery photo 1/2012. " We have identified the couple in the mystery photo. They are Andrew McMicken and his wife Helen. Andrew McMicken was an early resident having arrived here in 1881. Andrew had graduated from Princeton University and Cincinnati Law School. He maintained a law business as well as a livestock business in Carbon County. He was born in 1851 and died in 1922. Helen was born in 1860 and died in 1935. Helen came to Rawlins in 1886 and was married in 1890. They had two children. The house in the background was their home and was located at 5th and Buffalo."
