Description

Sepia print on cream mat and two copies of hardware store. False front building with painted on signs reading: "Hardware,Cigars, & tobacco, Stoves and Tinware, books, stoves, chilled Plow." A line of shiny wheels are beside building. Various wagons are parked in front and beside the building. Five men and two children stand beside building. Engraved on back a decorative irregular square design with a cross in the middle. Written on bottom front on original negative in white: "Compliments of Wm. Jungquist Rawlins, Wyo." Condition good. Left side and bottom left corner liquid stained, emulsion impacted, accretion, scratched. Copy I: Black and white print size 4 1/8 x 6 1/4. Stamped on back in black: "Carbon County Museum Box 52 Rawlins, Wyoming 82301". In blue ink: "Photograph between 1880-1883". Written on paper taped to back: "Wm Jungquist store built in fall of 1879 on NW corner 5th and Cedar. Destroyed by fire in July 1884. A new building erected that fall. P.J. Foster building north of Jungquist built in fall of 1879. B.H. Smock bought business in March of 83. Wallace Bros grocery in building when burned in July 1884. Street light privately owned, (put in by Jungquist and Foster) installed in Sept. 1880." Rans noted "the first street light in town." Condition good. Emulsion impacted by writing on back. Copy 2: 7 7/8 x 10. Black and white print. Condition good.
