Description

15 1/2" wide by 11 1/2" high sepia photograph on 20" X 16" black board. Picture of "Elmo Meat Market in Elmo, Wyo". A glass-topped deli counter full of meats, cans of lard and sourcrout, and bottles of unknown foods is in the front of hte picture, with a large register to the right, a Toledo scale in the middle, and two large glass jars with unidentified foods on the left. Behind the counter, near the register, is a woman in a dar dress with a light collar. Her hands rest on the counter, and a piece of string runs from the ceiling to her right hand (for tying packages). In the back stands a man in a white shirt, dark tie, and a white hat and apron. his left hand is behind his body (at an almost awkward angle), and his right hand holds a long, slightly curved knive on a table or chopping block. To the left of the counter stands a man in a white shirt and a vest under a white hat and apron. On the left wall is a fancy metal rack with three wide rows, each rack full of cans of lard. Two saws hang from the ceiling near the back. 5 small posters/signs for unidentifiable food products are on the back wall above the window and door into a back room. The picture is in good shape with very little speckling or marking. The board it is on has some smudges but is otherwise in good shape on the front. On the back, little bits of the backing paper from the frame it was formerly in has stuck to the paper. It was removed from the frame at accessioning due to the frame being in poor shape, but the back paper of the frame had "#49" and "5800" written like a price on it.
