Description

9 1/4" X 13 13/16" black and white photograph on 13 7/8" X 18" black matboard. Same image as 2008.1008.1.118. Description from that picture: "Black & white copy print. Snapshot. Image of two men standing on a sidewalk. Buildings in background. Man on left appears to be a Native American & is dressed in moccasins, a blanket coat, large hat & mittens hanging from string around chest. Man on right dressed in dark suit, shirt, & hat & is holding a cane. Written on original negative or print at center bottom: "John Enos 107 yrs & Geo McCabe 78 yrs Oldest Living [cut off]"." Text is complete on this picture, saying "Oldest Living U. S. Scouts." In pencil in the bottom left corner is "Rawlins Wyoming 1900". The man on the left has a very wide leather belt, and his blanket jacket has many wide stripes of various colors. The man on the right has a white beard, and possibly a bandanna tied under his collar around his neck. The top halves of both of their faces are shadowed by the brims of their hats. The photograph has yellowed in the center. The backing board is darker around the edges, where it was previously covered by a frame. Ancestry.com lists Enos as Chief Washakie's nephew.
