Description

7" wide x 5" tall black and white photograph with 3/16" white border around image. Picture shows 1931-1932 Rawlins High School class. Picture has 4 rows of children seated at desks, 7 children in the closest 3 rows, 5 children visible in the farthest row. The desks are the type attached to the seat in front of them. The first, closest row is, front to back: 1) A girl with her hair pulled back and coming down into pig tails on each side of her face. She wears a light dress under a cardican, and holds an open book. 2) A girl in a plaid dress with white collar, holding an open book. 3) A boy in a jacket, leaning on his arms on the desk. 4) A boy in a jacket, sitting with a book standing on his desk. 5) Boy with a jacket and tie. 6) Boy with a cardican and open book. 7) Boy with a cardigan. Second row: 1) girl in a light colored checked dress holds a book open in both hands. 2) Girl in a dress with a sailor collar and glasses, book is open face-down on her desk.3) Girl in dark dress, arms on her desk. 4) Girl in a dark dress with book standing on her desk. 5) Girl in light dress, arms on desk. 6) Girl in dark dress, hands clasped on desk. 7) Girl in dark dress, book open in both hands. Third row: 1) Girl in light dress with hair bows, holds book open in two hands. 2) Girl in light dress, book is open on her desk. 3) Girl in patterened dress, holds book open in both hands. 4) Boy in dark shirt, hands obscured by girl in row 2. 5) Boy in slightly lighter shirt. 6) Boy in even lighter shirt, arms on desk. 7) Boy in darker shirt, arms on desk. Fourth row: 1) Girl with curled hair, dark shirt. 2) Boy with dark hair. 3) Boy in dark shirt, appears to be reading book. 4) Girl with curled hair and dark dress. 5) Boy in dark jacket. In the far corner, a teacher in a white shirt and dark skirt stands beneath the American flag. An unidentifiable photograph is on the wall above the chalkboard, as is a photograph of Abraham Lincoln. Behind the students are several tall windows. 463 is written in the image in white on an empty seat. "Laura" is written on the back of the photograph in pencil. Donor states that Laura Jensen (possibly his grandmother?) is somewhere in the photograph. Picture is in good shape, with light discolorations at the edges of the back.
