Description

Baker and Johnston crossing River on the way to Lander. Update 1/2008: Black and white print, cabinet card. Orange matboard. Image of two men and two horses and a wagon attempting to cross a river. Wagon appears to be stuck as one man is in the river at the back wheel appearing to heave as the other man holds the reins and appears to be about to slap the horses with the rein ends. Sagebrush prairie in background. Both men are pantless. the one on the wagon is wearing a long white shirt. The one in the river is wearing a dark shirt. Wagon is pulled by one dark and one white horse. Mat back is pink. Printed on the back in gold: "Baker and Johnston Photos". Written on the back in pencil: "Baker & Johnston in difficulty again with photographic difficulties." Written in black ink on back: "Copied". Written in red/pink pencil: "Page 74 pix 4 212" Written in blue ink:"Given museum by Eugene Schalk, Sinclair, Wyo." Two(2) 3 1/2 x 4 7/8 copy prints. 1. Written on the back in black ink: "Baker and Johnson[sic]" "Given by Eugene Schalk, Sinclair." 2. Written on the back in black ink: "Baker & Johnson[sic}." Original mat yellowed around edges on back. Soiled. Emulsion surface appears to have been wiped with a damp cloth-lines of water spots throughout; scratched and scuffed. Corner and edge damage.
