Description

Baker and Johnston Studios at Lander. Update 1/2008: Sepia (?) print Cabinet card. Orange matboard. Image of three men posed by a log building with a sign on the left side "Photo Gallery". Man at left appears to be workman. He is wearing a leather apron, dark shirt and hat and appears to be holding a tool. Man at center, W.J. Johnston, is standing in the doorway. He is wearing a dark suit, white shirt and hat. He has his hands in his pants pockets. He is looking off to his right, viewer's left. Third man, Charles Baker is also in the doorway holding the open door with his left hand. He is wearing a dark suit, white shirt and hat. He too, is looking to his right, viewer's left. Appears to be a large canvas draped over the left half of the roof, may actually be the roof? Corrals, animal pens? at right side. Logs, sawhorse and wagon parts scattered along building walks. Pink mat backs. Written on back in black ink: "Baker & Johnston[sic] Photo Studios, Lander, Wyo. Ter." "Copied". Written on back in pencil: "Baker & Johnston in doorway[.] Baker is the older man-". Written on back in pencil: "Given to museum by Eugene Schalk, Sinclair, Wyo." Adhesive label pasted to back: "Lander Baker & Johnson[sic]." Two (2) 3 1/2 x 4 7/7 copy prints. 1. Written on back in black ink: "Baker & Johnson[sic] Photo Studio[.] Lander, Wyo. Terr. Baker is the older man[.] Given by Eugene Schalk[.]" "26, 27" 2. Baker is the older man[.] Given by Eugene Schalk[.]" "26-27" Original: Circular dents in back mat on right side impacting front of mat and image. Yellowed along edges on back. Edge and corner damage. Soiled and stained. Image surface scratched and scuffed.
