Description

Baker and Johnston in clown outfits. Update 1/2008: Black and white print. Cabinet card. Tan matboard. Studio portrait. Image of two men dressed in identical clown outfits. One is sitting and one is standing. Plain backdrop and patterned rug with fur rug under chair. Both men are wearing light colored plaid suits stuffed with padding and fastened with large round buttons down the front. White shirts with large silk bow ties, boots and tiny plaid top hats. Each has a horseshoe watch fob. Seated man is wearing white gloves; standing man is holding a bubble loop (?) in on hand and a cigarette in the other. Printed on the lower mat margin in gold: [in gold outlined box with end designs] "Baker & Johnston, Evanston, Wyo." Pink mat back. Written on the back in blue ink: "Given to museum by Eugene Schalk-Sinclair" "Unidentified" White label pasted to back: "Baker & Johnson[sic]" [Note: it appears this label was identifying the folder in which this image was filed as opposed to identifying the men in the photo.] Slightly soiled. Mat back and image surface scuffed and scratched. Edge and corner damage.
