Hughes Oil field discovered 1920, gusher, Sept. 17, 1923.
Update - June 2010: Black & white glossy contact print. Image shows wooden oil derrick with small wooden shed to its left. A vintage stationary steam engine is at side left with smoke emitting through boiler stack. Countryside is sparsely vegetated with mountains in the far background. A small vintage jeep type vehicle is parked in front of derrick. A small group of people are standing near derrick wearing long coats. A man is kneeling on ground near the derrick & another man is standing to left of jeep. Other objects are scattered about.
Written on back in pencil: Hughes Oil Co. field discovered 1920 Gusher Sept 17, 1923 other writing is on back.
Good condition. Surface has minor wrinkles & cracks in emulsion & various locations. Corners are worn. Back side has tape remnant at top edge. Soiling side right.Collection
