Description

Black & white print. Image shows an early day street scene with various store buildings on both sides of the dirt street. Buildings on the left & right are diverse in architecture & building material (some are lumber, some are sandstone & some stucco). Sign on building on left side wall reads: Harry E. McFarland, Groceries & fresh fruits. Sign on building in side right: Furniture. At the end of the road in the far distance is a multistoried Gothic building with spires (the old penitentiary). A large barren hill is seen rising behind this large structure. A wagon with a large heavy object on wagon bed is seen at right in front of a store. On back in pencil: Foreground - looking north. West side of 200 blk of 5th street. Small frame building downside of alley is Dr. Osborne Old Office Bldg. North Side of alley McFarland Grocery built in 1901 as the Citymall. Quinlan Bldg & Knights of Pythias lodge hall. Stone bldg. Charles Johnson Living/Feed Barn. Buffalo St. Cottage Hotel (??? Frame) "The Old Red Light" Stamped in ink: Meyers Studio, Rawlins, WY Fair condition. Surface has various cracks & crinkles in emulsion. Abraded emulsion on edges, various smudges & dimpling. Print has many developing flaws from the original including light opaque area & white line. Minor smudging on back side edges.
