Patnoe wreck, Sept. 27, 1902.
Update - March 2010: Black & white print on tan mat of a train collision. On photo left is a pile of debris of crushed railroad cars. Several men are standing on top of debris. Looking west a crane is visible & more train cars on the track. On a side rail on photo right are cars on the track. Men are standing on the ground between tracks. The cut in the hill for the tracks is visible in distance.
Written in black on bottom border: "Charles Patnoe Wreck West Yard Sept 27-1902"
Written on white adhesive tag in upper right corner: "Property of Ralph Bell See story"
Written on back in black: "Copied by State Mounted" In pencil: "Charles Patnoe wreck in the west Rawlins yards on Sept 27, 1902. a special fruit train got out of control of the engineer when the air brakes failed & collided with a switch engine & cars it was moving. Killed were engineer Charles Patnoe, the fireman, James Welch, Paul Dayton, & unidentified man. Three cars of sheep, three cars of potatoes, one car of ore, the caboose & several cars of fruit were burned." On white adhesive tag: "Train wreck".
Condition: Fair. Top left of picture is faded out white, accretion, scratched, bottom corners broken off, liquid stain, mat back paper missing, adhesive tape on top edge.Collection
