Description

A) 13 3/8" x 6 7/8" black and white photograph. A row of people standing in front of a biplane, parked in front of the open hangar. No markings are visible on the plane or hangar. From left to right there are: a family of four, with a girl in a white dress holding a hat in front of her father in a suit and flat cap, and a girl in a sailor dress holding her hat in both hands in front of the mom; a woman in a white dress, dark jacket, and white hat; a woman with short hair, dark cardigan, light shirt, and striped skirt standing very close to a man in a dark suit and straw hat; a man in a light, striped suit, ascot, hat, and sunglasses; a man in a dark shirt, tie, and flat cap; a man in a light suit, straw hat, and very short striped tie that has escaped his jacket; a man in a dark suit and straw hat with no tie; a woman in a white shirt, light skirt, and hat holding a baby in a dress; a man in a suit, flat cap, glasses and bow tie; a man in a dark suit and light hat; a large man in a long jacket, bow tie, and hat holding a burlap sac and a cane; the airplane pilot in a jump suit and helmet with goggles; a man in a suit and hat with no tie, holding a sac; an engineer-looking man in a button down shirt and flat cap; another man in a flat cap nearly hidden behind him; another man in a dark suit, holding a hat; a man in coveralls behind him in a flat cap; and finally a man in boots, puffy-thighed pants, a shirt and vest. "Rogner Photo Rawlins, Wyo" is raised in the bottom left. "H.J. Rogner Portrait and Commercial Photographer Dealer in Photographic Supplies Rawlins, Wyo." stamped ont he back. "Another photo in box - probably first delivery of mail by air" written on back in pen. The top right corner of the photo is missing, and a large tear runs up the left side. B) Same photo, but longer - this photo includes the left side of the hangar, as well as a dark blob in the top left which says, in white writing, "First Official Air-Mail for Rawlins, Wyo. August 16, 1921. - Rogner-" Stamped on the back is "Professional photo services Oct. 15 '65 Frank J. Meyers Rawlins, Wyo." and written in pencil "Rendle". Written on the back of the frame (which has been removed) in pen was a list of people: "Left to right #1 - Hans Larsen 2 - Mrs. H. Larsen 3 - Daughter of Larsens 4 - " " " 5 - Mrs. Homer France (Carrie) 6 - Mrs. Fred Rendle - 7 - 8 - W.H. Weaver 9 - Ross Alcorn 10 - Dr. Barker ? 11 - N.R.
