6 1/4" x 4 9/16" black and white photograph on 9" x 7" black mat.
Photo shows three men and a piece of machinery near a mine. The piece of machinery has two wheels located right next to each other on the visible side (and presumably 2 on the far side) that fit in train tracks and have "Chicago U.S.A." molded on them. An arm rises from the thing to a wheel that rides below a wire that crosses the top of the picture and is suspended by a brace poking into the top right corner. The closer end of the machine, int he bottom right of the picture, has a look that could be used to pull it. A round rod runs nearly the length of the machine, with a small steering wheel-looking wheel on each end. A metal seat is built into each end. On the left side, a man in long sleeves, overalls, and a strangely angular hat is seated. On the far side a man in a dark shirt, suspenders, and a cap is seated. Leaning, from the far side, on the machine is a man in a dark shirt and cap.
Behind them, the land drops down int a pit or valley. There are three buildings, one with multiple smokestacks, and smoke comes from at least two of the buildings. A wooden bridge runs across the valley.
"135" is written in white on the right side of the image.
The bottom right corner of the mat is torn off.Collection
