Description

Taken about 1900. Home at Saratoga. Two copies. Updated 1/2008: Black and white print mounted on dark grey matboard with light grey scallop and flower design border. Image of a man and woman standing on the porch of a two story clapboard house. Chicken wire and wood fence can be seen in the middle ground; flat prairie or lawn area in foreground; small tree inside fence at left. Turned wood columns on porch with "gingerbread" moulding at roof line between them. "Gingerbread" siding between upper front windows. Man is dressed in a dark, three piece suit, white shirt and hat; he is smoking a cigar. Woman is wearing a long, long sleeved patterned dress. Written on back in blue ink: "Picture taken in 1900(.) The George Baker home in Saratoga, Wyo. Mr. and Mrs. Baker on the porch. Given by George Baker Encampment Wyo." Written on back in black ink: "Copied". Three 3 1/2 x 4 7/8 copy prints. 1. Written on the back in black ink: "Picture taken in 1900(.) The George Baker house in Saratoga Wyoming. Mr. and Mrs. Baker are on the porch. Given by Geo Baker Encampment, Wyo." 2. Written on the back in black ink: "George Baker House in 1900 at Saratoga." Original: Mounted on acidic matboard. Upper right and left corners of mat missing; extensive damage to edges and lower corners. Lower edge cracked vertically to right of center. Soiled and stained front and back. Lower right edge at corner bent horizontally. Emulsion scuffed and scratched. White paint splotch in lower left corner of image. Emulsion cracked in upper right corner.
