Skiing and snowshoe party on top of the Continental Divide at the town of Battle, 1908 or 1909.
Updated 1/2008: Sepia print. Mounted on grey matboard. Image of a group of people on skis posed in a snowy meadow. Two tall trees and several dead trees can be seen in background along with a building and forested slope. Mixed group of people-men, women and children; women and girls in dresses.
Written on emulsion surface along lower edge: (Black ink) "68" (Blue ink) "Skiing party Snow shoe (sic) party on top of the Continental Divide at the Town of Battle" "1908 or 9".
Pasted in the lower mat margin: "E. Weylie Phot., S.F., Cal. A Snowsdio(missing).
Written in lower right margin of mat: "Given by Geo Baker Encampment Wyo".
Mounted on acidic matboard. Mat cut down from original size-edges irregular and surface pieces missing. Mat warped. Badly soiled stained front and back. Liquid damage to image along top, left and right edges and lower corners. Edges of image damaged and missing pieces; surface missing in places in upper right. Ink drops or flyspecks on emulsion in lower left. Emulsion surface dented, gouged and scratched. Three nail holes in right side (center and bottom) of mat. three nail holes in left side (center and bottom) of mat. Liquid damage to lower left corner of mat. Accretion and surface missing on mat back in lower left corner. Gouge at center of lower edge that extends through image and mat to back. Badly yellowed.Collection
