Description

Bootleg joint in Rawlins during prohibition. Update 1/2008: Black and white print. Mounted on grey matboard. Image of the interior of a saloon with three men at the bar. Bartender behind the bar is dressed in plaid shirt, dark tie and white suspenders and is smoking a cigar. Other two men are at the front of the bar, both are in shirt sleeves and hats. Suit jacket and overcoats of man leaning on bar are hanging on the back wall. Man standing at right is wearing a leather jacket. Bar is thick with straight slatted wood front and ends. Long back bar with s-piece mirror and bottles lined up on shelf. At close end of bar is a circular sign with a woman tennis player and partially visible name "erfield". Bare bulb hanging from ceiling. Walls and ceiling showing what appears to be water damage. Floor is a geometric patterned linoleum. Written in blue ink on the lower margin of mat: "Bootleg joint in Rawlins during prohibition. given to museum by Geo Baker Encampment Wyo." Written on back in pencil: "76 Blackie Cheyenne". Mounted on acidic matboard. Three vertical bends, two on right an done on left; inside bent on right has cracked and torn image; left bend has cracked emulsion at top left edge. Soiled; liquid damage. Emulsion cracked to left of tear and in lower right corner. Edge and corner damage on mat. Mat warped.
