Description

7 1/4" x 5" black and white photograph in approx. 9 3/4" x 8 3/4" black and gray mat. Printed on sticker on the mat, beneath the photo: "Elks Parade". Photo shows lines of men in suits with long overcoats and tophats marching down the street. There are two rows of the men, all in matching outfits, with long dark coats with a flower or pin on their left lapel. Some, but not all, of the men carry a sort of baton with ribbons tied around it. The men trail off into the distance out of view of the camera. Running to the viewer's left of the men is a dark colored dog. Viewers stand in bunches along the curb. On the viewer's right side of the road one building has a sign that reads "Hobbs". Streamers criss cross the area above the street. Written in white on the picture is "Elk's Parade Rawlins Wyo Photo by Stitt". Written in marker on the back of the mat is "Property of M.V. Cook". Written on a post-it note in Rans' handwriting is "Rawlins WY Elk Club 609 Parade down the 400 Block of W. Cedar St. during a late summer or early fall day twixt 1913 to 1916. ~Stitt's period as a Rawlins Photographer whose studio was at 313 - 4th Street."
