Approx. 13 1/2" x 10 1/4" black and white photograph of a gathering or event outside the Southern's Palace.
Written on back: "Taken on Front Street (419 West Front)(5th & Front) year unknown (1800s?) and reason for celebration unknown. 78 people."
The picture shows a large group seated and standing in front of Sothern's Palace, a stone building with arch-shaped windows with large furled awnings and American flags hanging in its windows. Socks are visible through the left-most window. Trees appear to be growing through the third window, with Chinese lanterns.
The front row, sitting on the ground, appear to be a brass band as well as a large bass drum. There are 5 of what appear to be baritones, three trumpets, and a tuba.
Most, if not all, the people there appear to be wearing a light colored ribbon hanging near their left lapel. There appear to only be two women, both seated in the second row around a central man, both dressed in black.Collection
