Description

Approx. 8 1/8" x 5" black and white photograph. Picture shows 9 girls and 10 boys, apparently dressed as Martha and George washington. The boys all have wigs, dark jackets with many buttons over white shirts and vests, dark breeches, white socks, and dark shoes. The Marthas wear long dresses with varying hair styles and head coverings. Three of them carry Chinese fan-style fans. The front row, l-r, is a girl sitting on the floor with glasses, a boy sitting on something holding a hat, a girl sitting on the same thing holding a fan, and a boy sitting on the floor. Second row, l-r, boy holding a hat, girl holding a fan, boy, boy, girl, boy holding a hat. 4th row, l-r, boy, girl holding a fan with a tall hair boy, boy, girl in a cap, girl, boy, girl, girl. One more boy centrally in the back. There is a blank backdrop behind the children, and an checkered pattern beneath them. Text on the back says "Central School about 1896 - Fourth grade students of Miss Helen Bennett's class in Rawlins Central School dressed for a play. This picture was taken about 1896." In marker it says "copied by state" and at the bottom it says "50% Page 71 pix/ 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 5265"
