C. R. Bell's Corrals, Rawlins. Update - 2009. 2 black & white prints. Print 1 on cream mat. Image of wood slat fences separating cattle, horses, mules & buildings. Photo center on pen is full of cattle. Building behind has painted on roof: "C.R. Bell's , Feed Corrals." It has two connected buildings with lower, one slope roofs, on roof of middle one are two children & a dog. In pen adjacent, are horses, a feed bin & a man standing by a large stack of hay. Houses are seen in the back ground. Pictures of the Bell home and corrals, situated on the 1/2 block between 8th st., & 9th st., where Mr. C. R. Bell (Ralph's father) had corrals to handle stock & he took care of all freight going to Baggs, Casper, & Lander. Also Dixon, Wyo., & Snake River valley. The brown house you see in right center, now belongs to Mrs. E. H. Woodhouse & the white house to the right of that is the old Tom Hanks house, later was the home of Pete Nelson. Mrs. Nelson was Tom Hanks daughter. Tom Hanks was early day citizen of Rawlins & was city policeman when Rawlins was very small. The Bell house is the small log house. The hay you see in the picture is baled hay, & is a rule there were 3 or 4 car loads of hay in the Bell corrals to feed the horses from the freight teams & other stock. Ralph's sister Ellen & he are on the roof of a shed. Mr. C.R. Bell is seen in corral where hay is stacked. State penitentiary can be seen in the background & the old Court House is at right upper end of picture. (Old court house was located where present Court house now stands). Written in ink on piece of paper glued to top right corner of mat: "Property of Ralph Bell see story" In ink on bottom right: "Year 1900" Written on back in black ink: "Ralph Bell. Stamped in blue ink in circle: "Geo E. Mellen. Expert View Photographer, Times Bldg. Chicago, U.S.A" Condition: Good. Emulsion impacted. Mat soiled, written on, corner & edges worn. Size 9 x 22 Print 2: same image. Black & white on cream backing. Written on back in blue: "Mounted" Circle stamp in blue: "Geo E. Mellen Expert View Photographer, Times Bldg. Chicago U.S.A. Condition: Good. Scratched left & right edges. Size 7 1/2 x 17 1/2
