Description

Old Central School, before the addition,. Flag raising at old Central School taken before 1895. Update - January 2010: Black & white original print attached to dark grey mat, which has been cut off and one copy. Image shows a large multi=storied sandstone building at side left & a very large group of students & children gathered by a flagpole with a U.S. Flag waving in the air. Ground is barren. There are several wooden frame houses seen in background. Two U.S. flags are seen held by people in the crowd. Written on back in black ink: two pictures of the original Central School in Rawlins. The pictures are both of flag raising ceremonies. This picture taken 1895. This school was constructed in 1885 and was later enlarged. the last addition to the building was in 1915. This building was razed in 1962 to permit the construction of the Jeffry Center. Poor condition. Image is severely faded & wrinkled & buckled on matboard. Emulsion is eroded on all edges & at several areas on surface. Unknown white residue on side left. there are several cracks & holes in surface of print. Other smudges & scuffs are throughout print. A large arc blemish extends from center of image to lower edge. Back of matboard is soiled & stained with dark unknown substance throughout. Copy print. 5 x 5 1/2". Good condition. Copy has the blemishes from original; white spot, arc smudge, faded look, crackled appearance. Also slight bend & crack side left emulsion. Other tiny scratches seen in emulsion.
