400 block of Cedar, north side. Building west of City Restaurant is J. A.Bennett Hardware Store built in July, 1885. City Restaurant built in 1885 but moved into it Feb. 1886. Photograph taken between Feb. 1886 and Oct. 1887. West half of lot 10 Block 14. Ellen Clause, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Werne, Andy Werne, Andy Cassivan.
Update - 2009: Sepia print. Snapshot. Mounted on tan matboard. Image of three buildings - two conjoined & one free standing. Building at right is partially visible; small clapboard structure with brick chimney & sign "DENTAL" [rest not visible] over door. Building at center has large floor to ceiling windows on front & a glass recessed door at center. Sign on cornice: "CITY RESTAURANT." Advertising posters displayed in windows. Seven people - two men, four women & small child are posed on raised boardwalk in front of restaurant. Third building, at left, also has floor to ceiling windows & a glass recessed door. Heating stoves are displayed on the raised boardwalk; posters are in the visible window. sign partially readable on cornice "MACHINERY" "EIT. [Bennett?] "Stoves" Two people - man & woman, are standing at street level at right.

Mounted on acidic matboard. corner damage. Mat warped. badly soiled front & back. Image lifting from mat in lower right corner; corner bent & emulsion cracked; torn & missing pieces on center left edge. Image surface scratched. Transparent tape on back from note attachment.
One 8 1/2 x 11 black & white scanned print, cropped to image only. Written on back in black ink: "north side 400 block Cedar 1880's -1890's."
Paper yellowed on front along top edge. Cracks in emulsion throughout.
