Description

Early day mail stage coaches leaving the old Post Office on the corner of 4th and Cedar about 1898 or 1900, Rawlins. Update - 2009: Black & white print. Snapshot. Mounted on green matboard. Image of four teams of horses, each pulling buggies & wagons, posed on a dirt street. Post office sign on the building at left. People & baggage/bags on boardwalk at left. Buildings line both sides of the street. Hill in background. 400 Block of Cedar Street, Rawlins, WY. Written on lower edge of front mat in blue ink: "Early day mail stage coaches leaving the old P.O. on the corner of 4th & Cedar St. Rawlins, Wyo. about 1898-1900. Given by Joe Tierney - Rawlins, Wyo." Written on back: [pencil] "Rawlins's[sic] Street scenes" "400 Block Cedar St. looking west" [black ink] "Duplicate" "Copied by State" "Scenes-c" [blue ink] "Mounted" [pencil on white adhesive label pasted on back] "Rawlins St. scenes". Mounted on acidic matboard. Cut down from original size along top edge - edge rough; torn in upper right & at upper left corner which is nearly separated from rest; image not centered. Back badly soiled. Edge & corner damage on sides & bottom. Liquid stain on image at top center. Mat front soiled. Image surface gouged, scratched & soiled. See also 1947.003.0113 & 1948.039.0018.
