Construction of the UP Train track, 1868.
Update 2/2010: Black and white glossy print of a large group of men standing in a long horizontal line with primitive attached wooden train cars behind them. The flatbed car at side left has many barrels on it at various places. Several men are standing and sitting at side right of this car. A second wooden box type car has a large round chimney pipe emanating from roof at rear. A man is standing at the single open window. Attached to this car is a long wooden rail car with its sliding center door ajar. A wall tent and two men are seen on top of this car. At rear on to of this car is a large bin type box. Side right shows another partially exposed car with men sitting and standing on top. Barren foreground and barren long hillside in the rear. Printed on lower edge of image in black from negative: "Process Union Pacific Construction Train, 1868." Written on back in pencil: "U P Construction" on tiny white sticker. Written on back in black ink: "E. M. Tierney."
Good condition. Emulsion is cracked and scratched at several locations. There are several small black scuff marks and indentations. Wear and soiling on edges.Collection
