Description

Very old cavalry sword picked up in Europe on travels of a friend of Mr. Meyer and it was given to him. Has a date on the blade of 1811. Update 2010: Cavalry sword & metal sheath. There is a fancy brass guard around grip. Update 2013: A- saber, curved steel blade, brass and leather grip, 3 prong-brass hand guard, B- scabbard, curved iron alloy, scabbard, 2 ring attachments and leather handle. Update 2024: Sword is a French Sabre de cavalerie légère modèle An xi, roughly translating is French light calvary saber model of the eleventh year. This sword was standard issue to the Grande Armée light calvary units during the Napoleonic Wars. Maker's/inspection markers are consistent with an 1811 manufacture date.
