Description

Black & white copy print. Snapshot. Image of a steam locomotive engine tender on a track through a grassy landscape. Painted on engine & tender is number 1. Typed caption attached to back with white adhesive labels: "The General Sherman - Locomotive #1. This was the Grand-daddy of all motive power in use on the Union Pacific. A woodburner, it was built by Danforth & Cooke of Paterson "New jersey, in 1864-65 & brought to Omaha by Steamboat in June 1865" Written in pencil on white adhesive label pasted to back: "Locomotives". Corners bent & emulsion cracked. Center right edge torn. Emulsion dented & cracked in places; soiled on lower edge.
