Description

UP Train Wreck, Patnoe, Sept. 27, 1902 Update: 3/5/2010 Black & white print attached to dark grey matboard. Image shows an early day steam locomotive with its attached cars derailed & on fire. The number 79 is seen on the small center dome. The number on the front lantern is not readable. Union Pacific is printed on side of engineer's cab. Individual and groups of men are at train front, sides & rear working on picking up objects, four of the men are carrying a long canvas stretcher, & working on the fire. Wreck occurred in an arid area with sparse vegetation. Large track timbers are askew . Image is poor condition with torn off corners, worn edges, unknown residue in several places on matboard and on print surface. image is scratched and scuffed. Backside is heavily soiled with many dark smudges, small residue, and dark fingerprints Written on back in blue ink and then x'ed out: Ed Patnoe Wreck around 1900 West End of Rawlins Yard, Not Correct (written in black ink). Written in pencil: ONeil wreck, Engine #1729, May 1900.
