Black & white print. Snapshot. Mounted on grey matboard. Image of the aftermath of a train wreck. Engine #1279 at front of a line of smoldering debris. Workmen at end of debris trail at left. Large puddle of water on prairie in foreground. Telephone poles stretching into distance along tracks.
Written on back in blue ink: "These pictures are of the O'Neil train wreck which occurred between 8 & 9 am Tuesday May 8 1900 at O'Neil which was east of river. The May 12 1900 issue of the Carbon County Journal called it the worst wreck in the history of the Wyoming Division. Caused by an open switch. The accident resulted in the death of five men & the destruction of two engines & eleven cars of merchandise.

Mounted on acidic matboard. Cut down from original size - edges rough & uneven; red & white adhesive label pasted to back is cut off - notes unreadable. Mat back scuffed. Slightly warped. Emulsion soiled & scuffed.Collection
