Three checks signed by J. A. Shetter. Check # 8 and 11 are drawn on the account of James A. Shetter, the first owner and manager of the Brunswick Hotel and Midway on 4th street in Rawlins. The checks are written on the Bank of James France (Rawlins first bank) and were paid to Palmer and Learn who at this time ran the Bull's Head Meat Market south across the alley on 4th as well as the Ice House in the 400 block of Buffalo Street. Payment could be for meat or ice or both. Check #27 is drawn on Shetter account at the Rawlins second bank J. W. Hugus & Co and was paid to Patrick Dillon who with his brothers Malachi and Dan ran such businesses as the Silver dollar Exchange Saloon north of Shetters Brunswick and a coal mine south of Rawlins. According to the Carbon County Journal, Patrick dug and put in a sewer for Shetter's Brunswick at this time. This check may well represent payment6 for that work.
