Description

6 photos of the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins. Photos a to e likely date from the mid-1920s to the late 1930s. All photos appear to be by Meyers. Several of the photos are marked in the bottom left corner with a number. a) Aerial view looking to the northeast across Rawlins. The prison and water tower are in the upper center of the photo. b) Aerial view of the prison, looking slightly northeast. Photo is dated 1935. "313" written in black marker on bottom left corner. c) Photo taken from Walnut Street, looking slightly northeast. Water tower is just visible over the roof. "313" written in black marker on bottom left corner. d) Photo taken in in the field east of the prison, looking west. Shows the guards' quarters, water tower, and several outbuildings. "313" written in black marker on bottom left corner. e) Photo taken from Walnut Street, looking northwest. The street is not paved and the fence around the property is wire, not stone. "46" written in black marker near bottom left corner. f) A copy-print of a much older photo. Probably taken shortly after original construction finished (c. 1905) because there is no fence, driveway, or secondary buildings. "#7" written in green marker on bottom left corner.
