Description

4 photographs of the 4807th Company, Civilian Conservation Corps, Camp G-44-W in Rawlins. All are dated August 9, 1940. a) Labelled "Retreat", shows 2 long lines of men on the right side standing in front of a line of cabins. All have one hand over their heart. There are what appear to be officers on the left side of the photo, who are saluting instead. b) Labelled "Mess Hall", shows the interior of a long building filled with 2 rows of wooden tables. Every table has 10 place settings. There is also a serving table with a very large metal pot in the center of the left side. c) Labelled "Work Shop", shows a large empty room with a work counter along the wall on the right side under a line of windows, and a few small machines along the left side. d) Labelled "Reading Room", shows a large room with 2 wooden tables in the center and metal chairs along the walls. There are elevated nooks on the walls between the windows, all of which are filled with books.
