Description

Haystacking time on the Darr Ranch about 1915. Standing is: J. W. Darr, Mrs. Darr, Ethel Burch, Ed McAlister, and Irene Darr on Horseback. Milo Woodbury on top of stack and Elmer Cox under derrick. Two copies. Update 2008: Black and white print. Snapshot. Image of four men and three women, standing and mounted in a grassy field. Two large piles of hay and a hay lifter can be seen in the background at left; trees at right background, barbwire fence around hay piles. Two men at hay piles-one on top largest stack and the other under the hay lifter. Older man in dark suite, dark shirt and hat standing at left center. He has a full grey beard and mustache. Woman standing left center is wearing a dark skirt, light colored long sleeved blouse with dark bodice strips and a dark hat with large bow. Young woman standing at center is wearing a light colored stripped dress with white cuffs an collar, a pair of long dark gloves and a white tall crowned hat. Man and woman at right are mounted on dark horses. Woman is astride the horse an is dressed in a dark skirt, white long sleeved blouse and high crowned hat. Man is dressed in work clothes and a hat. Written on back in black ink: "Copied by State" "Mounted" crossed out. Typed label pasted on back: "Haystacking time on the Darr ranch around 1915. [added in pencil] Other photos says 1912. Dented line from top center to shoulder of woman on horseback; dent at center bottom. Paper wrinkled on edges. Lower left corner bend. Emulsion cracked. One 3 1/2 x 5 1/8 black and white copy print: Written on back in black ink: "Darr Ranch 1915." Original: Gray paper residue covering most of back. paperclip mark in upper left edge; upper left corner bent, emulsion cracked. Image surface scratched and slightly soiled. Cracked at center, buckled in places from adhesive on back. Silvering in dark area.
