Description

3 B/W photos of local chapter of Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks' unofficial ladies auxilliary, referred to as "Does"(?), circa early 1960s. Presumed to be the Benevolent, Patriotic Order of Does. Based on background details, all photos appear to have been taken in the Elks Building. Although unidentified, one of the women in the pictures is Iona (Burton) Daily, and another is possibly Alice (Burton) Sheahan/Medlock. a) 8"W x 5"H, a group of 9 women all in white/light colored dresses. Most of the women appear to be older and have shorter, coifed 1940s hairstyles. About half are wearing glasses. Several have corsages pinned to the left shoulder of their dress. b) 8" x 10", a group of 19 women of varying ages, standing in 3 rows. All are wearing calf-length semi-formal dresses. All the women have a flower corsage pinned to the left shoulder of their dress. There is a lectern in the center of the image with a large bouquet in front of it, and a mounted elk head high on the wall behind. Several of the women in this picture visually match the women in (a), but are wearing different dresses. Bottom right corner "Photo by Meyers Studio". c) 8" x 10", clearly taken at same event as (b). Approximately 45 women are standing in about 5 rows. The women from (b) are standing behind 2 rows of women wearing white/light colored dresses. The white dresses are nearly all of the same design. All the women have a flower corsage pinned to the left shoulder of their dress. There is a large bouquet in the center of the front, and a mounted elk head high on the wall behind. Bottom right corner "Photo by Meyers Studio".
